DESCRIPTION
“What in the world is going on in that kid’s head?” “How can I help my class transfer what they learned last week to what they need to learn next week?” “What can I possibly do to help my class remember this information?”
If you have ever found yourself asking these sorts of questions, you will want to come to this webinar. We have a natural desire to understand what makes us “tick,” yet educators get very little training in understanding the human brain, let alone how this knowledge affects both teaching and learning. We’ll learn not only how the brain works, but how to use this knowledge to engage and even delight your students, challenging them in ways that honor students’ individual differences, and which bring purpose and meaning to their learning.
In this session participants will:
- understand key brain structures involved in learning.
- learn classroom activities that promote memory, retention and learning.
- develop strategies that promote students’ abilities to apply knowledge to new situations.
- understand whole-brain teaching and learning, especially with regard to reading.
- understand the role of the arts in brain-based learning.
- apply Bloom’s Taxonomy to enhance higher order thinking skills.
