The ambitions behind Deeper Learning—primarily to create students that are more independent, self-directed, and better prepared to cope with the modern demands of college, careers, and the world at large—are broadly popular. Nonetheless, schools that have truly managed to exemplify the conditions of Deeper Learning still represent a small percentage of the American education system at a time when the need for bold change is of critical importance.
In this workshop, participants will use the free Deeper Learning Planning Guide based on the book, “Deeper Learning: How Eight Public Schools are Transforming Education in the 21st Century” to help gain an understanding of Deeper Learning, the best practices and examples of what works, and what their school has in place to support Deeper Learning.
By the end of the workshop, participants will know how to assess the prevalence of the four conditions or components for deeper learning in their school(s) and how to use this to identify key strategies to implement the four conditions that lay the foundation for Deeper Learning.
During the webinar, participants will:
- Share the strengths and challenges your school currently has of one of the components of the theory of action for DL based on your self-assessment.
- Learn how to prioritize strategies for your school to lay the foundation for the transition to Deeper Learning.
- Identify one strategy you will focus on to create a Strategic Action Plans your school will implement to address the core components of the theory of action.
- Complete a Strategic Action Plan outside of the webinar before the next webinar.
